At Destiu we want to present you with our latest and most innovative version of the old Porquera for women. What used to be predominantly a workshoe used by local farmers, has been redesigned into the most fashionable of footwear, and with its versatile and finer touch, it is perfect to combine and use in almost any occasion.
The differences are mostly visible. We have given our porqueras a youthful touch and equipped them with a leather tongue and lace holes that can be tied, as well as a 3mm thick insole which will make them much more comfortable and easy to wear.
Alongside our very personal interpretation of the Pitiusa Island espadrilles and the Menorcan leather sandals known as Aubarcas, all of which have carved their own place in the footwear market, other shoe designs have come out of these islands, each with their own curious history. Legend has it that an Ibicenco arrived in Mallorca and his espadrilles broke, because he was poor and didn't have the means to buy a new pair, he fashioned himself a pair of shoes from an old tyre and a piece of canvas, making the very first porquera. And the thing is, this island has the manufacture of footwear in its genes, almost equally important as... the telling of legends.
