From the heart of Ibiza, this is our 100% handmade black wedged sandal, using dyed curdellí (pita fibre) and a 7-tier wedge sole of esparto grass.
Born out of scarcity and from the raw materials of rural Ibiza: esparto grass, hemp, pita, among other natural fibers ... the old "espardenyers" (espadrille makers) who weaved from dawn to dusk, chopping, stringing and squeezing, would have never suspected that their espadrilles would survive as a precious legacy, partly because of their history, yes, but above all for their beauty. Ad Lib fashion (from the Latin "at pleasure", "at will", "live as you like" ) is inconceivable without the white cotton and lace robes wrapping the body in an inexplicably comfortable and vaporous way, and on the feet... on the feet always a pair of espadrilles for a carefree and tremendously romantic look. This is Ibiza.
It takes almost 3 full days for our expert artisan masters to make a single pair of sandals, spinning the pita thread by thread to form strips of curdellí, and once obtained, it is weaved with great care and delicacy to shape it into the well-known Ibicencan espadrille.
For a touch of elegance, we have mounted the upper and heel onto a 7-tier wedged sole made from natural jute fibre rope.
This is the process we use to make these marvelous espadrilles, leaving them polished and not itchy - like the old ones that were made from the much rougher pita thread.
It is important to know how to tie them because otherwise, they are likely to break.
